How to crochet Owl Wrist Warmer or Fingerless Mittens

Hello my dear friends 🙂

I crochet an owl hat and owl scarf for  my 3 year old little niece in Austria. My daughter Hannah, she is 10, loved the design so much that she came up with these owl wrist warmers.

I used my simple pattern for “normal” wrist warmers … you can find it here.

For her Owl Wrist Warmers I used Schachenmayr Bravo Yarn with a 3.5 mm hook.

I crochet them in half double crochet and only in back loops, that gives them a little bit more texture.

Starting chain for Hannah (10 years)   chain 32 ….. then crochet 11 rows in grey and 6 rows in pink … fasten off and leave a long tail to sew it together.

Owl Eyes
Make a magic ring in blue or black and chain 1
Round 1: crochet 10 single crochet in your ring and join with a Slip Stitch (10sc)
Round 2: change color to white, chain 1
then crochet 2 single crochet in same stitch and in each stitch around, join with a Slip Stitch (20sc)
Round 3: chain 1, crochet a single crochet in same stitch and 2 single crochet in your next stitch
*crochet a single crochet in a stitch and 2 single crochet in your next stitch* repeat
join with a Slip Stitch, fasten off and leave a long tail to sew on (30sc)

Ears:
Cut 3 longer strands of your yarn. Loop your strands through your Stitch of your last row, knot and trim them.

Nose:
Chain 4 in yellow and work a Slip Stitch in your second chain from your hook. Then work 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet and 1 double crochet. Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew it on.

Sew your Eyes and Nose on. Fold your rectangles in half and stitch or crochet them together. Leave a little hole for your thumb open. That is all you have to do. 🙂

  1. Hallo Andrea, tolle Eulen, wirklich suess.
    Vielen Dank
    Anne

  3. Hello,
Dear Andreea, can you tell me what kind of yarns you used to do these wanderful fingerless mittens? I ask you this because i am a beginner and i’d like to have some of these because i have a problem with my hands.
Thank you for your kind answer.

  4. I want to see these in a brown and gold so that my owls will be of the same color of the owls here in Iowa. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a pink and gray owl, and I don’t know what I would do if I did. My late sister-in-law would have loved these wristers, but she pleased away in May of 2012 of Breast Cancer complicated by lung and stomach cancer. She would loved using these to stay warm.

    1. I’m sorry, I made a mistake. She passed away in May of 2012, not that she pleased away. None of us were pleased that she died, but it was a blessing that she was no longer in pain from the cancer.

    2. 🙂 Come here …. our owls are coming in many different colors.
I am so sorry to hear that about your sister in law …. sending hugs

    1. Thank you Barbara 🙂 I am pretty sure you can crochet beautiful things. Send me some pics of your work and if you have any question just let me know.
