How to change colors in a basic Granny Squaree
Hello my dear friends 🙂
Now I will show you how I change my colors in a basic granny square.
I used Schachenmayr Bravo Yarn with a 3.5 mm hook.
So pick one color of your yarn and start your first round of your granny square:
Chain 4 with your yarn. Insert hook in your first chain and Slip Stitch to form a loop.
Round 1:
Chain 3 – this will be a double crochet
chain 2, work 3 double crochet into your loop
chain 2, work 3 double crochet into your loop
chain 2, work 3 double crochet into your loop
chain 2, work 2 double crochet into your loop
To change color make your Slip Stitch with your new color in your 3rd chain and you are ready for your round 2.
Round 2:
Chain 3 – this counts as your 1st dc
work 2 double crochet into your first loop, chain 2 and work 3 double crochet also in your 1st loop
chain 1 and work 3 double crochet, chain 2 and 3 double crochet into your 2nd loop
chain 1 and work 3 double crochet, chain 2 and 3 double crochet into your 3rd loop
chain 1 and work 3 double crochet, chain 2 and 3 double crochet into your 4th loop
Chain 1 and to change color make your Slip Stitch with your new color in your 3rd chain and you are ready for your round 3.
Round 3:
Chain 3 – this counts for a double crochet
Chain 1, work 3 double crochet, chain 2 and 3 double crochet into your 1st loop (corner of your square)
Chain 1 and work 3 double crochet into your next loop
Chain 1 and work 3 double crochet, chain 2 and 3 double crochet in your next loop (corner of your square)
Chain 1 and work 3 double crochet into your next loop
Chain 1 and work 3 double crochet, chain 2 and 3 double crochet in your next loop (corner of your square)
Chain 1 and work 3 double crochet into your next loop
Chain 1 and work 3 double crochet, chain 2 and 3 double crochet in your next loop (corner of your square)
Chain 1 and 2 double crochet in your next loop and Slip Stitch into your 3rd chain
Fasten off and here is your granny square.
As you can see I work along the sides with 3 double crochet and 1 chain and for the corner 3 double crochet, 2 chain and 3 double crochet.
You can increase your granny square with many rounds you only have to follow the scheme of your 3rd round.
Let us take a look at your back side of your granny square. As you can see I have the loose ends of the “changing color” side by side. Now you can make a knot and weave in your loose ends. I feel secure when I can ma a tight knot.
I wish you all a nice day and see you soon
Andrea
